Get Out There Sonoma County!
So what gives?
What's the big idea? So the idea I had for this blog, was to throw out different events and adventures each week that people could enjoy in and around Sonoma County. Will this work? Absolutely! 😉 At the very least, at the end of all this I will be better equipped with more knowledge of Sonoma County to take my own level of shenanigan's up a notch. He he. And at the most, and what I hope for, is that a few of these events and adventures find there way home and into the hearts of the people that seek them. And while were throwing out a wish list, another hope of mine is to form a sense of community or fellowship with all of you, as we explore this area of Sonoma County which I love and choose to call home. 👪
So without further ado.......
"Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls"
"Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that your used to". Uh NO! ha! If you have never heard this song by TLC it's o.k., were still going to hook you up with the 411 on this Sonoma County waterfall spot. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, located at 2605 Adobe Canyon Rd, in Kenwood is the first adventure I feature in this blog. Kenwood is between Sonoma and Santa Rosa about 25 minutes coming from each direction respectively. I chose this spot first because we are still barely in the rainy season and without the rain we got no waterfall! I personally have never been here and am planning on going next week some time. Man tbh my hike game is a little weak, so if I keep throwing hikes in here I might have to invest in a solid pair of clod hoppers and a fancy water bottle. 😊
There are multiple trails to choose from in addition to the 25-foot seasonal waterfall trail. They range from family and accessibility hikes, to timed out 1, 2, and more than 3 hour hikes. In addition to the breathtaking views that include Mount Saint Helena, Mount Diablo, Mount Tamalpais, and the San Francisco Bay, as of January 30th the campground is open as well, while still remaining in accordance with the social distancing protocols. (Camping is only $35 a night, and there are a variety of tents you can rent as well!) Come early or late because of parking ($10), to be sure of entry due to the popularity of parks now days and dogs, (fido) will have to sit this one out I'm afraid. 🐕😒 Park hours are from 6am - 8pm, (but I also see 10pm too??). Anyhow here is a link to their web page (I hope) Incredible Hiking, Camping, and Family Fun (sugarloafpark.org) to check out for any other information. Also, 707-833-5712
Thanks for reading (don't throw things I will get better, I promise, he he) and have a great time. See you next week!

ahaha apparently I'm spaced out on my title spacing.. ooof. Better luck next time :)
ReplyDeleteI love Sugar Loaf. I have been going there since I was a little girl, but it has been awhile since I've been there. The waterfalls are beautiful and the hikes are great. The last time my family went there we hiked to the top of Bald Mountain, which was intense as it was 95 degrees that day. I think we are going to have to make a trip there soon. Great blog and beautiful picture.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the story, I'm heading out there today (2/28) and now I am all the more pumped to check it out after reading your pitch. I'm not sure if I will see any waterfall action because of the lack of rain, but I am still looking forward to the views that you saw. Thanks for commenting, hopefully I can get you something you haven't done yet!!!
DeleteHey Jeff,
ReplyDeleteI love the tone of your writing. It's an inviting blend of conversational and informational, I feel as though I'm at a coffeeshop with a podcast! I like the frequent references and humor. Sometimes that can come off as distracted or self-congratulatory but with you it feels authentic. I can tell you really love exploring, that it really gets you juiced, and that in and of itself makes the blog easy and fun to read. Looking forward to more of your shenanigans!
Thanks for your comment Jaime! Shenanigans is defiantly a requirement for me to get through this deal we call life. Right? Haha. Glad you enjoyed it! I am also glad you said the distracted part, because some times I can fall down a rabbit hole and I may have to be keen to reel it in a bit. These were some great comments thank you SOO much. A coffeeshop ehh? I do like me some coffee, that's what I'm missing this morning. Ha! Thanks. Cheers!
DeleteHey Jeff, that hike looks awesome! I have lived in Sonoma County for all my life but somehow haven't made it to sugarloaf yet, but I know where I'm going next! I love how casual your writing is, it makes me enjoy reading and looking forward to the next line in your blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Grant. I know right? I too have lived in Sonoma County all my life and ain't never heard of this. I kinda remember a went to a waterfall once in the Guerneville area 1000 years ago, but if you had me try and locate it, you would probably have to call out a search and rescue team to find me. Thanks again for your comment and your kind words Grant.
DeleteI meant to put "I kinda remember I". Typo on my part. Ooof. I can't seem to edit comments. But the real thing I want to do is be able to change the background color. I'm still learning tho.
DeleteNicely done, Jeff!! Great opening - grabs attention right away with a contradiction - I immediately wanted to read more. And I heartily agree with Jaime regarding the casual, conversational aspects without being distracting or tangential. Your enthusiasm is infectious, and for those who pick up on it the info they need to rush right out to Sugarloaf is all there. For a first blog this definitely rates an A++!
ReplyDeleteOMG Unknown you have a heart of gold! Have we met? Wink Wink. Thanks for your comments and kind words. I'm looking forward to sharing some ideas with you going forward on this project. Thanks for reading!
