No! Your a wild Animal
Did some one say Safari? Take going on a Safari to the next level with this one of a kind adventure nestled in Sonoma County's own back yard. Safari West is a 400-acre private wildlife preserve located 12 miles north of Santa Rosa. Carving out a small piece of Africa for nature lovers to enjoy it has been dubbed, "The Sonoma Serengeti". haha.
On any given day your adventure may have you run across rhinoceros, giraffes, cheetahs, zebras and hyenas. I wonder if hyenas really laugh out loud?
Our Mission
The mission of Safari West is to actively promote conservation and environmental education, while sharing knowledge that empowers each individual to think sustainably about their role in the environment and the world at large.
When Peter met Nancy…
Safari West was born in the late 1980’s when Peter Lang purchased 400 rolling acres in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. Relocating his small but growing collection of exotic wildlife, Peter quickly converted the former cattle ranch into a world class conservation breeding facility.
As Peter set to work establishing captive breeding programs for the varied and often critically endangered species in his collection he worked closely with local zoological facilities, including, of course, the San Francisco Zoo. It was there that he met lead curator, raptor-specialist, and his future wife, Nancy Lang. Combining their unique skill-sets, the pair set about turning this vast swath of oak woodland into the world class wildlife preserve it is today.
I have never been to Safari West, but this looks super fun. I love animals (I did spend a good deal of time in 4-H when I was younger and was even crowned rabbit King of California in 1992...but that is another story, he he) and could totally see myself ridding on one of those canvas covered "custom safari vehicles" with a big stupid smile on my face. You are also allowed the opportunity for a safari walk amongst some of the animals that may need more of a subtle approach. Kids are super welcome but must be at least 4 and must be at least 45 inches tall to take a turn riding on the top seat of the vehicles. Dinning for dinner and lunch is definitely welcomed, as well as the "private encounters" and even spending the night!
The pricing for these 3 hour long excursions that feature over 90 species are as follows...Adults (18 – 61), Seniors (62+), Teens (13 – 17) and Children (4 – 12)
